Are you happy with your NHS dentist?

NHS dentist - Select Dentist, Exmouth Devon

10 Apr Are you happy with your NHS dentist?

A recent survey carried out by Healthwatch Devon has revealed how difficult it is for Devon residents to get access to an NHS dentist.

As well as problems in finding an NHS dentist, the survey also highlights a worrying lack of patient satisfaction with their NHS care.

Key findings include:

Appointments – 50% of people who are registered with a private dentist only waited up to one week for treatment. However, only 20% of people with an NHS dentist received treatment within a week.

Quality of treatment – 37% of people receiving NHS care rated the treatment excellent, compared to 83% of people who received private treatment.

Distance travelled – most people travel less than three miles, but some travel 16, 20 and 27 miles to their dental practice.

We know many Exmouth residents are experiencing some of these issues as the majority of NHS dental practices are currently not taking on new patients over the age of 18 due to funding constraints.

Given the issues highlighted above, choosing a private dentist for your dental health is a sensible option.

Why choose Select Dental?

We are a non-NHS dentist and offer the following benefits compared to an NHS dental practice:

Treatment options – NHS treatment options are limited, for example, implants or teeth whitening are not available on the NHS. We provide access to a broader choice of dental treatments, which means we can tailor your treatment to your individual needs and requirements.

High standards – we have no funding restrictions so always provide the very highest standard of treatment and materials.

Time – we offer longer appointment times so there is plenty of time to discuss your best treatment plan and alleviate any concerns you may have.

Quality – we have an in-house dental laboratory so have total control over the standard of our dentures, crowns, bridges and implants. Unlike NHS surgeries we don’t rely on other laboratories to provide these items for our patients.

If you’re looking for a new dentist and would like to discuss becoming a Select Dental patient, please give us a call on 01395 225600.
