Electric toothbrushes can be more effective at cleaning your teeth than manual toothbrushes so long as you use your electric toothbrush correctly.

How to use your electric toothbrush

  1. Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and with a little pressure, hold on each tooth for 3 to 5 seconds.
  2. With a bit of pressure, hold the brush on each tooth for 3 to 5 seconds. Start from the outside of your upper teeth on the right and brush all the way around until you reach the lefthand side.
  3. Move the brush to the back left of your upper teeth and all the way around to back right.
  4. Move the brush down to the lower teeth and repeat the process cleaning both front and back.
  5. Applying a little more pressure, scrub the biting surfaces.

You should spend two minutes in total cleaning your teeth.

Electric toothbrushing tips:

  • Let the toothbrush do the work, You don’t need to brush as you would with a manual toothbrush.
  • Use a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Don’t wet the brush before cleaning and don’t rinse your mouth with lots of water afterwards.
  • Replace your electric toothbrush head every three months or sooner if it looks worn.
